Shreyas Talpade heart attack:On the evening of Thursday, December 14, Bollywood actor Shreyas Talpade experienced a heart attack while filming, leading to his collapse on set. The 47-year-old actor was swiftly admitted to a Mumbai hospital, where he underwent angioplasty around 10 pm to address the cardiac issue.
Hospital authorities have confirmed that Shreyas Talpade is currently in stable condition, having successfully undergone the late-night procedure. Despite initial reports of restlessness and discomfort, he is expected to be discharged in the coming days, with reassurances of his overall well-being.
Johns Hopkins Medicine says that the angioplasty procedure opens coronary arteries that have become clogged due to coronary artery disease. It helps restore blood flow to the heart muscle without open-heart surgery and can be done in emergencies like heart attacks. Doctors also perform the procedure as part of elective surgery if you have heart disease.
The surgeon inserts a long, thin tube (called a catheter) into a blood vessel and guides it to the blocked coronary artery. There is a small balloon at the tip of the catheter which is inflated in the narrowed part of the heart artery. This presses the plaque or blood clot against the sides of the artery, making more room for blood to flow.
Stents are used in almost all angioplasty procedures. Once the stent is placed, tissue begins to coat the stent like a layer of skin. Doctors say the stent gets completely covered with tissue within 3-12 months, depending on whether the stent has a drug coating or not.
