Actually both the airlines had to cancel 70 of their flights. In fact, many members of the airlines have gone on mass sick leave, due to which the company has had to take this step.
According to sources, Air India and Air India Express are going to be merged, hence the pilots and cabin crew of both the airlines feel that their jobs are in danger. That’s why everyone is protesting. This protest has become bigger since last night, due to which more than 70 flights have been cancelled. These include maximum flights from Middle East and Gulf countries.
When Air India was with the central government, many unions were with the pilots and cabin crew, but now after becoming private, these unions do not have much importance. According to sources, if this matter is not resolved soon, many more flights of Air India and Air India Express will be cancelled.
Air India Express issued a statement saying, ‘A section of our cabin crew has reported last minute illness since last night, resulting in flight delay and cancellation. While we are engaging with the crew to understand the reasons behind these incidents, our teams are proactively addressing the issue to minimize any inconvenience to passengers.
