Anand Mohan’s release case reaches Supreme Court, hearing on petition on May 8

New Delhi. The issue of the release of Bihar’s Bahubali leader and former MP Anand Mohan has reached the Supreme Court. A petition filed against his release is going to be heard in the Supreme Court on May 8.

Uma Krishnaiah, wife of late Gopalganj District Magistrate G Krishnaiah, has filed a petition against the order of release of Anand Mohan, who is serving life sentence in the death of her husband.

Anand Mohan was sentenced to life imprisonment in DM Krishnaiah’s murder case and he was in jail for the last 15 years. A mob led by Anand Mohan killed G Krishnaiah, the then District Magistrate of Gopalganj in 1994. .

Krishnaiah’s wife had on Saturday moved the Supreme Court challenging the premature release of gangster-turned-politician Anand Mohan from jail. Anand Mohan was released from Saharsa Jail on the morning of 27 April.

A few days before this, the Nitish Kumar government had amended the Bihar Jail Rules, 2012 on 10 April. The section on ‘murder of a public servant on duty’ in cases for which remission of the jail term cannot be considered was removed.
