Anantnag: A search operation is underway after a fierce encounter that lasted for more than 100 hours between Pakistan-backed terrorists and security forces in Kokernag in Anantnag district of South Kashmir.
Security forces have recovered a burnt body from the hilly forest area where the encounter is going on. But the burnt body has not been identified yet.
The operation to flush out the terrorists entered the sixth day on Monday. This campaign is going on in the Gadole forest area of Anantnag since Wednesday.
The operation had started when Colonel Manpreet Singh, Commanding Officer of 19 Rashtriya Rifles, Major Ashish Dhaunchak and Deputy Superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police Humayun Bhatt lost their lives in the operation.
Heavily armed terrorists, whose number is believed to be two to three, are hiding in the dense forest. According to sources, this seems to be a new pattern adopted by terrorists to hide from security forces.
On Sunday, security forces expanded the area of operation to neighboring villages and fired several mortar shells towards the forest. Security forces are using drones and helicopters for surveillance in the dense forest area.
