Andhra Pradesh train accident: 13 dead, 50 injured, 18 trains diverted, 22 cancelled.

Vizianagaram. The death toll in Sunday’s train accident on the Howrah-Chennai line in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh has increased to 13, while 50 people have been injured. Superintendent of Police M Deepika gave this information on Monday.

After this horrific accident, 18 trains were canceled and the route of 22 trains was changed. CPRO of East Coast Railway, Biswajit Sahu gave this information. After the train accident in Vizianagaram district, nine trains were diverted via Vijayawada-Nagpur-Raipur-Jharsuguda-Kharagpur.

East Coast Railway officials said that around 7 pm on Sunday, the Palasa passenger train hit the Rayagada passenger train from behind at Kantapalle, about 40 km from Visakhapatnam, causing three of its coaches to derail.

According to information received from Vizianagaram Collector S Nagalakshmi, at least 50 people have been injured in the train accident. The injured have been admitted to hospitals in Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram.

Expressing grief over the accident, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy directed the officials of the state to give an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 2 lakh each to the injured.
