Kejriwal said, “The Lieutenant Governor and BJP were trying to make mayor illegally even after losing.” He said that the party has sent a fresh proposal to the LG to hold the mayoral election on February 22.

On Friday, the Supreme Court said in one of its orders that the nominated members of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi cannot vote in the election of the Mayor. A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice PS Narasimha and Justice JB Pardiwala directed that the election of the mayor of Delhi would be held in the first meeting of the MCD and after the election of the mayor, he would preside over the election of the deputy mayor.

The Supreme Court’s order came on behalf of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi on a petition by Shelly Oberoi, the mayoral candidate, requesting that the election be held at the earliest.
