Rafael Nadal will be on a quest to win his 21st Grand slam title. He will face the winner of the Tsitsipas vs Medvedev match in the final. The Spaniard has only won the Australian Open once in 2009.
After winning the first two sets comfortably, Matteo took a breakpoint in the third set. He looked promising in the fourth set as well. At a point, he had 23 straight points on his serve, but Rafa gained a breakpoint and did not look back.
“For me it’s all about the Australian Open more than anything else, it’s an amazing event,” Nadal said.
“I have been a little unlucky during my career with some injuries and I played in some amazing finals here with some good chances against Novak in 2012 and Roger 2017, I was close a couple of times.
“I feel very lucky that I won once in my career in 2009, but I never thought about another chance in 2022.
“So I’ll just try to enjoy today’s victory and try my best in the final.”
Nadal will become the first man to have won 21 grand slams, if he manages to win the Final. He is currently tied with Federer and Djokovic at 20 grand slams.
