New Delhi. With the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), voices of protest against it are also emerging rapidly. Petitions have also been filed against CAA in the Supreme Court. The hearing of these cases will start in the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud himself will hear these petitions. There will also be two other judges in the bench along with him. A total of 237 petitions have been filed in this matter in the Supreme Court of the country.The Citizenship Amendment Act was passed by the Parliament on 11 December 2019, even at that time many petitions were filed regarding it.
On March 11 this year, the Central Government had notified the rules of CAA. Even after that some petitions were filed and early hearing was requested. In all these petitions, CAA has been described as discriminatory on the basis of religion and against the Constitution.
Last Tuesday, a statement was issued by the Central Government regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act, in which it was discussed in detail about the uncertainties prevailing in the Muslim society regarding CAA. The Home Ministry made it clear that no Indian is going to lose his citizenship due to CAA.
It was said that Indian Muslims have no need to worry as the Citizenship Amendment Act will not affect their citizenship. They are entitled to equal rights on the lines of Hindu society.
