Bhaskar Reddy is the father of Kadapa MP YS Avinash Reddy. Former MP Vivekananda Reddy had been a minister. He was the brother of late Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Rajasekhara Reddy and uncle of Jagan Mohan Reddy. Vivekananda Reddy left the Indian National Congress and went to the YSR Congress.

He was murdered at his residence in Pulivendula on March 15, 2019. The case was initially investigated by a Special Investigation Team of the State Criminal Investigation Department, but was handed over to the CBI in July 2020.

In March 2020, following the order of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, the CBI took over the case. Last week, the Supreme Court directed the CBI to constitute a new Special Investigation Team (SIT) and complete the investigation by April 30.

According to the CBI chargesheet, Vivekananda Reddy was upset over the ticket being given to Avinash Reddy as the YSRCP candidate from the Cuddapah Lok Sabha constituency. Due to this Avinash Reddy and Bhaskar Reddy turned against him.
