Elderly couple had to face problems for 14 hours in flight, Air India will have to pay compensation

Chandigarh. The elderly couple had to travel in an Air India flight for 14 hours. Whereas both of them had taken business class tickets. Now the Consumer Commission has imposed a fine on Air India. The matter is of Chandigarh, the capital of Punjab and Haryana.

According to the information, a couple from Sector-43, Chandigarh had bought a ticket from Delhi to New York by spending Rs 8 lakh. Senior citizen Rajesh Chopra and his wife Gamini Chopra, living in Sector-43, had traveled from New York to Delhi in January 2023.

He faced problems during the journey due to broken seats in the flight. He filed a complaint against Air India to the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. Holding Air India responsible for the trouble caused to the complainants, the Commission has imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the airlines.

Apart from this, the airlines will also have to pay Rs 10,000 to the complainants as litigation expenses. In the complaint given to the Commission, Rajesh Chopra and Gamini Chopra told that this is the case of January 12, 2023 and they had booked two business class seats in the flight and Rs 8,24,964 was paid.

Then both of them boarded the flight on 20 January 2023 and reached Delhi the next day. Both of them allege that the seats given in the flight were broken and they had to travel on broken seats for 14 hours.

Whereas a stool was given to place one’s feet. Complainant Rajesh Chopra said that he is a senior citizen and a brain stroke patient and a disabled person. For this reason he went to America for physiotherapy.
