Chandigarh. There was a big upheaval in Chandigarh Municipal Corporation on Sunday when 3 councilors of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) joined BJP. The names of AAP councilors who have joined BJP include Neha Musawat, Gurcharan Kala and Poonam Devi.

These three later also met BJP’s election in-charge Vinod Tawde in Chandigarh. BJP’s National General Secretary Vinod Tawde, while sharing the pictures of these Aam Aadmi Party councilors joining BJP, posted on X and said,

“Influenced by the public welfare policies under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Aam Aadmi Party councilors from Chandigarh Poonam Devi, Neha and Gurcharan Kala joined BJP in Delhi today.”

Tawde further said, “AAP has cheated them, but BJP will give them justice as per their capacity without any false promises. You all are welcome to the BJP family. “Together we will work for the betterment of the citizens of Chandigarh.”

On the other hand, a few hours before the hearing in the Supreme Court on Monday, Chandigarh Mayor Manoj Sonkar resigned from the post on Sunday, paving the way for re-mayoral elections.

Reprimanding the returning officer who conducted the Chandigarh mayor election, the Supreme Court had said in the hearing held on February 5 that it was clear that he defaced the ballot papers, for which he should be prosecuted and his act was ‘murder of democracy. ‘And’ mockery’.
