Chandigarh: A big news has come out from Punjab. Punjab Police, in an operation on Thursday morning, arrested Bhultha MLA and Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira from his residence in Sector-5, Chandigarh.
Sources said he was picked up in connection with an old case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act in Jalalabad, Fazilka.
For this operation, a team of Fazilka police along with an officer of the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP) had reached the residence of MLA Khaira.
Angry Sukhpal Singh Khaira raised questions on the police action and accused the state government of arbitrariness. He said in Facebook Live that he is being harassed to settle political scores.
In Khaira’s Facebook Live video, he can be seen arguing with police personnel. He is demanding the police to show the warrant. He is also asking the police personnel to identify themselves, as some of them were in plain clothes.
In the video, a police personnel tells Khaira that he is DSP Jalalabad Achharu Ram Sharma. Sukhpal Singh Khaira can be heard asking about the case in which the police has come to take action against him.
On his question, DSP Achchru Sharma can be heard saying that this is an NDPS case, to which Khaira says that this case has already been canceled by the Supreme Court. Khaira is also seen protesting against the police for entering his bedroom early in the morning.
