Michong wreaks havoc in Chennai, 17 people killed, rescue operations underway

New Delhi: Due to cyclonic storm Michong, there was heavy rain in Tamil Nadu’s capital Chennai as well as other districts, due to which roads and houses were submerged. Even the problem of electricity crisis arose. Although Michong has now weakened, the effect of Michong is still visible in many districts and areas.

People in some parts of Chennai and its suburbs are still facing the problem of stagnant water and electricity. Meanwhile, relief and rescue operations have been intensified. Today, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is going to visit Tamil Nadu on Thursday to take stock of the damage caused by the floods.

Due to severe floods, residents across Chennai are facing shortage of milk, drinking water and other essential commodities. In fact, due to floods, the supply of all these things has come to a complete halt. At the same time, the problem of shortage of daily essential items has deepened due to unnecessary shopping by the people.

It is estimated that 17 people have died in the floods caused by the torrential rains that preceded the cyclone, out of which most of the deaths occurred in Chennai. Rescue workers used inflatable rafts and ropes to pull people out of their homes amid widespread flooding in Chennai. People in areas surrounded by water appealed for help, with more boats deployed to take people to higher ground.
