New Delhi: There is a tussle between BJP and Congress over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement ‘If Congress comes to power at the Centre, it will take people’s property and distribute it among Muslims’. On one hand, Congress said that Prime Minister Modi is resorting to lies and diverting public attention from real issues.
At the same time, BJP has come to the defense of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has shared an old video clip of Manmohan Singh. In fact, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said on Sunday that if Congress comes to power at the Centre, it will take people’s property and distribute it among Muslims. PM Modi said this while quoting a statement of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, in which he had reportedly said that the minority community has the ‘first right’ on the country’s resources.
While addressing the election rally in Banswara, Rajasthan, PM Modi said, ‘This urban Naxal thinking…. My mothers and sisters, this will not let even your mangalsutra escape. We will go to this extent.’ He claimed, ‘This Congress manifesto is saying that they will calculate the gold of mothers and sisters, get information about it and then distribute that property. And we will distribute it to those about whom Manmohan Singh’s government had said that Muslims have the first right on property.’
He said, ‘Earlier when his government was in power, he had said that Muslims have the first right on the country’s property. This means, after collecting this property, to whom will we distribute it?… We will distribute it to those who have more children.’ He said, ‘We will distribute it to the infiltrators. Will your hard-earned money be given to infiltrators? Do you accept this?’ PM Modi was referring to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s controversial ‘Pehla Haq’ comment made in 2006.
Regarding the Congress manifesto, PM Modi said, ‘It (manifesto) says that if the Congress government is formed, everyone’s property will be surveyed. The amount of gold our sisters have will be investigated and calculated. There is silver in our tribal families, it will be accounted for… This gold belongs to the sisters and whatever other property they have will be distributed equally to everyone.
PM Modi said, ‘Do you agree with this? Does the government have the right to seize your property? Does the government have the right to confiscate your property, your hard-earned property? In the life of mothers and sisters, gold is not for show, it is related to their self-respect. PM Modi said, ‘Their Mangalsutra… is not an issue of the price of gold, it is related to their dreams of life. You are talking about snatching it in your manifesto? You are saying that you will take the gold and distribute it to everyone.
