New Delhi. There was a lot of uproar in the MCD Standing Committee elections by taking 1 vote. On Thursday, the voting for the election of six members of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi was completed peacefully, but there was a ruckus at the time of counting of votes. During the counting of votes, one vote of Bharatiya Janata Party was declared invalid.

BJP councilors got angry about this decision. Mayor Shelly Oberoi declared the vote invalid, while the municipal secretary and the Election Commission official called it valid. There was a heated debate between the mayor and the officers regarding this. At the same time, the BJP councilors started creating ruckus by climbing on the bench.

Actually, preference wise vote is cast in the standing committee election, that is, the names of all the members who are candidates are written, according to their preference, 1, 2, 3 have to be written next to their names. But the councilor has written 1, 2, 2 on it.

BJP claims that vote is invalid if there is any truncation. Only the first preference is seen and the Election Commission decides which vote is valid and which is invalid. The members of the Election Commission have considered it valid. But the mayor says the vote is invalid because 1,2,2 has been written instead of 1,2,3.

On the battle of illegal-legitimate votes, the Aam Aadmi Party has said that the Election Commission has no role in the standing committee elections. AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj said that according to the DMC Act, the mayor has declared the vote illegal. Bhardwaj said, “I do not understand what is the role of the Election Commission.

The standing committee is elected by the mayor. Even in the election of deputy mayor, giving votes was illegal, then they were not worried. If it is illegal today then it is. The mayor said that they will get the count done again, even in this they have a problem.
