New Delhi. Light rain in many parts of Delhi-NCR on Friday brought considerable relief from the increasing air pollution. This happened amid the Delhi government’s ongoing efforts to implement the idea of ‘artificial rain’ through cloud seeding. To reduce pollution in Delhi, artificial rain will be tried around 20th November.
Despite light rain, the overall air quality in Delhi has again fallen into the ‘severe’ category. According to the data of System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research, Delhi’s AQI was 206 on Saturday morning. AQI 173 was recorded in Alipur, 282 in Anand Vihar, 241 in Bawana, 167 on Mathura Road and AQI 213 in Okhla.
Due to rain in Delhi on Friday, the maximum temperature dropped to 22.7 degrees Celsius, which is seven degrees less than the average temperature of this season. Intermittent light to moderate rain was recorded in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram and other surrounding areas on Friday.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, a total of 5.8 mm rainfall was recorded in Delhi. Skymet Vice President Mahesh Palawat said that after the rain ends, north-westerly winds will start blowing, which will continue for the next two-four days. Due to this, Delhi seems to be getting relief from air pollution but this situation will not last for long.
