New Delhi:Besides the national capital Delhi, several states, including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, are still in the grip of a cold wave. The combination of fog and cold is exacerbating issues for the residents in these regions.
On Wednesday, visibility was reduced to zero at many locations due to dense fog, leading to disruptions in rail and air services. The India Meteorological Department predicts the likelihood of dense to very dense fog on Thursday and Friday night and morning. This dense fog is anticipated not only in Delhi-NCR but also in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Western Uttar Pradesh.
Uttar Pradesh has issued a warning about the likelihood of dense fog over the next two days, leading to an escalation in cold conditions. The alert for dense fog in UP extends until December 29. There is a possibility of light rain in the southern part of Uttar Pradesh on January 1, although Purvanchal and Paschimanchal are not expected to experience rainfall.
The Meteorological Department forecasts four days of dense fog in Delhi and its surrounding regions. An orange alert has been issued for two days, with a yellow alert for the remaining two days, signaling the potential for dense fog in the Delhi-NCR areas.
Additionally, meteorologists have predicted severe cold conditions for the upcoming two days. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the commencement of the new year in Delhi is expected to be marked by dense fog. Furthermore, the impact of a western disturbance is anticipated in Delhi-NCR.
A fresh western disturbance is likely to influence north-west India starting from December 30. This influence could result in light rain across various regions, including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha, from December 31 to January 2.
