Delhi Police raids the house of Newsclick journalists, UAPA case registered

New Delhi: Registering a case under the Unlawful Activities Act (UAPA) against digital news website News Click and some journalists associated with it, the Special Cell of Delhi Police raided their houses early on Tuesday.

The Enforcement Directorate had earlier conducted raids regarding the funding of News Click. After this, the raid was conducted by the Special Cell after some inputs were shared by the ED.

News Click is accused of taking Rs 38 crore from American citizen Neville Roy Singham and running sponsored news in favor of China. The journalists whose houses were raided in this case include Aunindyo Chakraborty, Abhisar Sharma, Sohail Hashmi, Bhasha Singh, Prabir Purkayastha and Urmilesh.

He has been accused of accepting money for anti-India activities. At present, the search for special cell is going on in Delhi-NCR. According to police sources, laptops, computers, hard disks and mobiles were seized during the raid.

Officials said that the police recovered ‘dump data’ (data transferred from a computer, laptop or mobile to another device) of laptops and mobile phones of some journalists of ‘Newsclick’.

He said that the special cell has registered a new case and started investigation. A senior journalist Abhisar Sharma wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, ‘Delhi Police reached my house. Took my laptop and phone.
