New Delhi: The Supreme Court has once again reprimanded SBI regarding electoral bonds. The Supreme Court has issued a notice seeking reply on SBI presenting data of electoral bonds without unique numbers. The Supreme Court on Friday said that State Bank of India (SBI) should have disclosed the unique alpha-numeric number of electoral bonds received by political parties.
The Constitution bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud heard the Election Commission’s plea seeking amendment of a part of the court’s March 11 order in the electoral bond case. The court directed its Registrar (Judicial) to ensure that the data submitted by the Election Commission in sealed covers is scanned and made available through digital medium.
This bench also includes Justice Sanjeev Khanna, Justice BR Gavai, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra. The bench said that it would be better to complete this work by 5 pm on Saturday and once this work is done, the original documents should be returned to the Election Commission.
During the hearing, it took note of the representations of advocate Prashant Bhushan and senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the petitioner, that SBI has not disclosed the unique alphanumeric number of the electoral bonds. The bench issued notice to the bank and fixed March 18 for further hearing in the matter.
