Jammu: In the Latipora area along the Srinagar-Baramulla Highway, a suspicious object believed to be an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) has been discovered, prompting a swift response from security forces. The bomb disposal squad has been deployed to the site, and the entire area has been cordoned off as a precautionary measure.
A state of high alert has been declared in the vicinity. The heightened security measures come in the wake of recent security concerns in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly after the Poonch attack. In response to this threat, the army in the region is maintaining a state of high alert and conducting extensive search operations to identify and apprehend potential terrorists.
Just three days prior, on December 24, terrorists targeted a retired officer in Baramulla. In Gentmulla, Baramulla, assailants entered a mosque and fatally shot a retired Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) while he was reciting Azaan.
This disturbing incident followed an attack on December 21, where armed terrorists ambushed two army vehicles in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the martyrdom of four soldiers. The situation underscores the ongoing security challenges in the region, necessitating continued vigilance and counter-terrorism efforts.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is visiting Jammu and Kashmir today to review the attack. He will reach Jammu at 11.30 am today, from where he will go to Rajouri and take stock of the attack site. The Defense Minister will hold a meeting with the commanders and will also review the security arrangements.
