Gandhinagar: Life has come to a standstill in Gujarat amid floods. The government on Saturday closed two national highways and 10 state highways passing through Porbandar and Kutch due to the devastation caused by rains in different parts of the state.
According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy rain in Gir-Somnath, Junagadh, Kutch, Porbandar and Valsad, Navsari of South Gujarat till tomorrow afternoon. Commissioner urges people not to venture out unnecessarily and stay at home
In a statement, Gujarat Relief Commissioner Alok Pandey said that so far, a total of 736 people have been shifted to safer places and around 358 people have been rescued. Altogether 302 roads were closed, including 271 panchayat roads.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held a review meeting at the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) in Gandhinagar late Saturday night, where he interacted with district heads after his efforts to reach Junagadh to personally review the situation proved futile.
A total of nine teams of National Disaster Response Force and SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) have been deployed in the districts affected by heavy rains. Two teams each of NDRF and SDRF are conducting rescue and relief operations in Junagadh.
