New Delhi:In a major blow to Team India’s World Cup 2023 campaign, all-rounder Hardik Pandya is forced to withdraw from the tournament due to an ankle injury. Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna steps in as his replacement. Pandya sustained the injury on October 19 during a match against Bangladesh and was undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA.
While there were reports of his recovery, the latest update confirms his exit from the competition.
Team India faces a double setback as Hardik Pandya’s departure leaves them with only five bowlers. Surprisingly, Shardul Thakur, the other all-rounder, remains unused. In a lineup change, Suryakumar Yadav joins as a batsman, while Mohammed Shami strengthens the fast bowling department.
So far, Team India has maintained a perfect record, winning all seven matches in the World Cup.Pandya sustained his injury during a match against Bangladesh, sidelining him after just four games. He managed to secure five wickets and had one unbeaten batting stint, scoring 11 runs.
The Indian team is set to take on South Africa in their eighth World Cup match on Sunday, having already secured a spot in the semi-finals with their unbeaten streak.
