IMD predicts rain will continue in many states including Delhi this week, danger of hailstorm after cold wave

New Delhi: Rain is expected to continue for the next few days in the plains of North India including Delhi. Along with this, there is a possibility of continuation of heavy rain and snowfall on the Himalayan mountains. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a new Western Disturbance is likely to affect northwest India from January 28.

Due to this, there is a possibility of light to heavy rain and snowfall in the Western Himalayan region. Whereas on January 29 and 30, it may rain in the plains of North West including Delhi. The IMD has also predicted heavy rain and snowfall at isolated places over the western Himalayan region on January 29 and 30.

The IMD has predicted hailstorm at many places in Himachal Pradesh on January 29, Uttarakhand on January 29 and 30, East Rajasthan on January 28 and 29 and West Rajasthan on January 29. While it has rained in many parts of the country during the last 24 hours. Light to moderate rain and snowfall were observed in Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand.

Light to moderate rainfall was observed over Lakshadweep, and parts of Madhya Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and North Interior Karnataka. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), some parts of Himachal Pradesh have also received heavy rains.

Another fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect the Western Himalayan region from February 1. The minimum temperature is likely to drop by 3-5°C over most parts of northwest India by January 28 and thereafter increase by 3-5°C in the next 2 days. Cold wave conditions are likely to prevail over isolated parts of Punjab and West Rajasthan during next 48 hours and over Saurashtra and Kutch during next 24 hours.

There is a possibility of dense to very dense fog in the morning in some areas of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh. Dense fog very likely at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during next 48 hours.

While a cyclonic circulation has formed over the East Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining east equatorial Indian Ocean around January 27. It is very likely to move slowly west-northwestwards during subsequent 3 days.

Strong wind (wind speed reaching 40-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph) very likely over East Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal. Strong wind (speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph) very likely along Gujarat coast and adjoining Northeast Arabian Sea. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into these areas.
