New Delhi. India has asked Canada to recall 40 diplomatic staff. According to people familiar with the development, New Delhi has told Ottawa that it will have to recall about 40 diplomats by October 10.
The Indian government has not yet issued a statement regarding this latest incident. Canada has 62 diplomats in India and India had said that out of these, a total of 41 people should be reduced.
It is noteworthy that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had recently alleged that the Indian government may be behind the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
Since then, diplomatic relations between New Delhi and Ottawa reached their lowest level. Nijjar, a designated terrorist in India, was shot dead in the parking lot outside a Gurudwara in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada on June 18.
However, India has completely rejected these claims of Canada and called them absurd and motivated. The Indian government has said that Canada has not yet provided any public evidence to support the claim of Nijjar’s murder.
