Gaza.After hours of delay, during the ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict, Qatar and Egypt successfully mediated the release of 13 Israeli detainees and four Thai citizens by Hamas. The handover took place through the International Red Cross Society (ICRC) following a seven-hour delay.
Hamas alleged that Israel breached the ceasefire terms. However, on the second day of the ceasefire, Qatar and Egypt facilitated a resolution to the deadlock. As part of the agreement, Israel is now expected to release 39 Palestinian prisoners from its jails.
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid al-Ansari said in a post on Twitter that 13 Israelis and four foreign nationals have been handed over to the ICRC. After undergoing initial medical examination, these hostages were taken to an airbase in southern Israel. From where he will be taken to several different hospitals in the Tel Aviv area for additional medical and psychological examination.
According to a statement from the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli detainees included six adult women and seven children and teenagers. The hostages were released after spending 50 days in captivity.
