A BJP delegation led by Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav also submitted a memorandum to the commission on this issue. Talking to reporters, party leader Tarun Chugh cited the Representation of the People Act and said that the recognition of the Congress party should be cancelled. The BJP also submitted a copy of Sonia Gandhi’s statement on the issue, which was tweeted by the Congress.

The party said, “Karnataka is a very important member state in the Union of India and any call to protect the sovereignty of a member state of the Union of India is tantamount to calling for secession and is fraught with dangerous and fatal consequences.”

Referring to Sonia Gandhi’s speech at an election rally in Hubli on Saturday, the Congress had said in a tweet that the Congress Parliamentary Party President “gave a strong message to 6.5 crore Kannada people”.

The party also shared her picture, in which she is seen addressing a public meeting. The Congress tweeted, “The Congress will not allow anyone to threaten the prestige, sovereignty or integrity of Karnataka.”
