Liquor worth Rs 759 crore sold during Onam in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram. Shocking news is coming from Kerala which is facing economic crisis. Liquor worth Rs 759 crore was sold during the Onam festival ending on Saturday.

Interestingly, the cost of Chandrayaan-3 mission is Rs 600 crore, which is about Rs 159 crore less than the price of liquor purchased by the residents of the state till Tuesday.

Kerala State Beverages Corporation said on Thursday, ‘During the 10-day Onam festival that began on August 21, liquor sales in Kerala have reached the highest level of Rs 759 crore.’

Last year this figure was Rs 700 crore. An increase of 8.5 percent was seen in sales compared to last year. Incidentally, while people guzzled liquor worth Rs 759 crore during the festival, the state government received Rs 675 crore through taxes.

On the eve of Onam, the highest sales were recorded at Uthradam and Bevco earned Rs 116 crore from the sale of liquor. During the festival, the highest sales of liquor were recorded on Monday, the first day of Onam.
