New Delhi:On Monday, Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra contested the cancellation of her Lok Sabha membership in the Supreme Court. The decision to revoke Mahua’s parliamentary membership came on Friday, following the Ethics Committee’s recommendation in connection to the Cash for Question case.
It is noteworthy that Mahua was accused of taking money and asking questions in Parliament, after which the Ethics Committee was formed and then the Ethics Committee, after a long investigation, submitted its report in the Lok Sabha on Friday.
The Ethics Committee’s report advised the Lok Sabha Speaker to remove Mahua Moitra from the House. Subsequent to the report’s presentation, a roughly one-hour discussion unfolded in the Lok Sabha. Following the deliberation, a proposal was set forth to expel Mahua Moitra from Parliament, and it received unanimous approval through a voice vote.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla had said, ‘This House accepts the conclusion of the committee that the conduct of MP Mahua Moitra was unethical and unbecoming of an MP. Therefore, it is not appropriate for him to remain an MP.
