New Delhi: A major accident has been averted this morning at the Delhi airport. In fact, an aircraft of Vistara Airlines was given permission to take off while another aircraft was in the process of landing.
However, the control room took timely action and a major accident was averted. Flight UK725 from Delhi to Bagdogra was taking off from the newly inaugurated runway and Vistara flight from Ahmedabad to Delhi was proceeding for landing on the parallel runway.
According to the information, instructions were given by the ATC in time and the operation of the flight which was about to take off was stopped, due to which a major accident was averted.
An official aware of the incident said, “Both were allowed at the same time but the ATC immediately took control. The ATC (Air Traffic Control) officer on duty asked Vistara to cancel the flight.
The Delhi-Bagdogra flight returned to the parking lot from the active runway. It was then refueled to ensure that the aircraft had enough fuel to return to Delhi if the pilot encountered bad weather at Bagdogra.
He told that the braking system was also investigated. According to airport officials, if the flight was not stopped at the right time, a big accident could have happened.
