Government can give 10 to 12% reservation to Marathas, special session will be called in the assembly

Mumbai. Eknath Shinde led Maharashtra government can give 10 to 12% reservation to Marathas in the state. Sources gave this information on Sunday. It is being told that Shinde government will call a special session of the assembly to provide reservation.

This news has come at a time when, on February 16, the Maharashtra State Backward Classes Commission had submitted its survey report on the social, economic and educational backwardness of the Maratha community to the government.

Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has requested Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange to end his indefinite hunger strike.

He said that the state government is positive about providing reservation to the community. Social activist Manoj Jarange is currently on an indefinite fast since February 10 at his native place in Jalna district regarding Maratha reservation.

The Chief Minister’s Office had said that the report would help the government with necessary data to enact a law ensuring reservation for the Maratha community. About 2.5 crore families were included in this comprehensive exercise.

Commission Chairman Justice (retd) Sunil Shukre had submitted the report to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The survey (findings) will be discussed in the state cabinet meeting. The government has also announced a special session on February 20 to discuss the community’s demands for reservation in education and government jobs.

Shinde emphasized that reservation would be given to the people of Maratha community without disturbing the existing reservation of other communities. The survey was started across Maharashtra on January 23, in which 3.5 lakh to 4 lakh state government employees participated. This survey was conducted on 2.5 crore families.
