Aizawl. In Mizoram, Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) ousted Mizo National Front (MNF) and gained power by winning 27 seats in the 40-member House. MNF won 10 seats while BJP won two and Congress one seat. The party’s chief ministerial candidate Lalduhoma is also among the prominent leaders of ZPM who won.
He defeated J. of Mizo National Front (MNF) on Serchhip seat. Malsavamjuala defeated Wanchawang by 2,982 votes. While Chief Minister Zoramthanga lost the Aizawl East-I seat to ZPM candidate Lalthansanga by 2,101 votes.
MNF had won 26 seats in the 2018 assembly elections in Mizoram. This will be the first time in the history of Mizoram that the northeastern state will be ruled by a non-Congress and non-MNF government since its formation in 1987.
Now it is considered certain that ZPM leader Lalduhoma will become the Chief Minister. There is only one question in everyone’s mind that who is Lalduhoma who has caused such a big upheaval in Mizoram? How long has his career in politics been and what is his background?
The biggest introduction of Lalduhoma is that he is a 74-year-old former IPS officer of 1977 batch. Even before he became the frontrunner in the race for Chief Minister in the state, he had already become a well-known name in his state Mizoram.
People outside Mizoram who might have heard his name before would remember him as the first MP and then MLA in the country to be disqualified under the anti-defection law.But on Monday he created the biggest upheaval in the politics of the Christian-dominated north-eastern state.
Now Lalduhoma has ousted the current Chief Minister Zoramthanga from power. It is expected that now his name will be discussed in the country for the right reasons.
