The subsidized rate is lower than the current market rate of Rs 36-70 per kg, depending on quality and location. In February, the government had conducted a pilot sale of 18,000 tonnes of ‘Bharat Atta’ at Rs 29.50 per kg through these cooperative societies in some shops under the Price Stabilization Fund Scheme.

Flagging off 100 mobile vans of ‘Bharat Atta’ on duty here, Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Piyush Goyal said, ‘Now that we have conducted the trials and have been successful, we have completed a formality. It has been decided so that flour is available everywhere in the country at the rate of Rs 27.50 per kg.

He said sales of wheat flour were low during the trial as it was sold retail through only a few stores. However, this time there will be better uptake as the product will be sold through 800 mobile vans and 2,000 shops of these three agencies across the country.
