Addressing a press conference late on Sunday night, Patil said that the disqualification petition has been sent to Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar. He said that an e-mail has also been sent to the Election Commission of India, in which it has been told that NCP leaders and workers are with party chief Sharad Pawar.

The party, founded by Sharad Pawar in 1999, faced a split on Sunday afternoon when his nephew Ajit Pawar joined the Shiv Sena-BJP government as deputy chief minister.

Apart from Ajit Pawar, 8 other MLAs of the party have also been made ministers in the government. These include Chhagan Bhujbal and Dilip Walse Patil, who are said to be loyal to Sharad Pawar.

Reacting to the incident, Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar said on Sunday that he would prepare a new leadership in the NCP and that when such situations arise in the party, they get more energy to work. Pawar also said that he is the face of the party for the future as well.
