New Delhi: Giving importance to the culture of expatriate Indians living in New York, America, the administration here has included Diwali in the list of public holidays for schools. The city’s mayor, Eric Adams, made the announcement on Monday. He said the decision has been taken considering the size of the South Asian and Indian Caribbean community in the city. New York Mayor Eric Adams tweeted information about the holiday on Monday. Eric said that from now on Diwali, the festival of lights, would be a holiday in New York City schools. Other community leaders, including Assembly member Jennifer Rajkumar, helped me with the decision on Diwali holiday. Although, it is a bit early to say but still Happy Diwali.

Adam further added that there is no need to feel unwanted anymore. You are a part of this city. You will not be considered an outsider. New York is for everyone. We don’t care where you come from. New York Assembly member Jennifer Rajkumar congratulated the people by tweeting. He said that it is a matter of pride for me to fight for the new law with the mayor.

However, the bill has yet to be signed by Governor Cathy Hochul. But the mayor says he’s confident the governor will sign the bill. The Diwali holiday will replace Brooklyn-Queens Day on the calendar. According to foreign media, New York schools have been giving holidays for Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha since 2015.
