Washington. US President Joe Biden believes that Israeli forces should not recapture Gaza and it will not be good for them. In fact, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had recently said that after the end of the war, his country will take over ‘overall security responsibility’ in Gaza for an “indefinite period”.
White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said, ‘The President still believes that the recapture of Gaza by Israeli forces is not good. This will not be good for Israel; It will not be good for the Israeli people…’ He said, ‘One of the talks that Minister (Antony) Blinken is holding in the region is what will be the condition of Gaza after the conflict? What will governance look like in Gaza? Because whatever happens, it cannot be the same as it was on October 6. Hamas cannot exist here.
This warning from America comes after Netanyahu’s statement on Monday, in which he said that Gaza should be ruled by ‘those who do not want to follow the path of Hamas’. Along with this he had said, ‘I think that overall security responsibility will be on Israel indefinitely, because we have seen what happens when we do not have it.’
US President Joe Biden had also said last month that occupying Gaza would be a ‘big mistake’ for Israel. These comments have come when after a month of war, the distance between America and Israel is emerging. Last week, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken pressed the Israelis for a ‘humanitarian pause’ to allow hostages and civilians to leave Gaza and to allow Palestinians to enter.
