7 judges of Patna High Court approached Supreme Court regarding closure of GPF accounts

New Delhi. 7 judges of Patna High Court have approached the Supreme Court. The High Court has agreed to hear on Friday a petition by seven judges of the Patna High Court who have claimed that their General Provident Fund (GPF) accounts have been frozen.

The matter was referred to Chief Justice Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, Justice Krishna Murari and Justice P.S. Narasimha. Referring to the matter, a lawyer before the bench said that the GPF accounts of seven judges have been closed and the matter should be taken up for an early hearing.

The Chief Justice said, ‘What? Judges’ GPF account closed? Who is the petitioner? List the matter for Friday.These judges were appointed as Additional District and Sessions Judges as direct recruits under the Superior Judicial Services of Bihar in April 2010. They were appointed as High Court judges last year.

When he was a judicial officer, he was part of the National Pension Scheme. In 2016, the Bihar government made a policy that people moving from new pension scheme to old pension scheme will be entitled to get back their NPS contribution amount and it can be either kept in their bank account or deposited in GPF account. Could.

On being appointed as judges, they were given a GPF account each, where they deposited the NPS contribution amount. In November last year, the Accountant General had sought clarification from the Ministry of Law and Justice on the legality of transfer of NPS contributions by these judges to GPF accounts.
