Pithoragarh. A major road accident took place in Pithoragarh. In the accident, the taxi returning from Adi Kailash Darshan fell into a deep ditch. There were 6 people in the taxi including the driver, whose death is being reported.
Police and SDERF teams kept searching for all the passengers till late night, but due to heavy rains and landslides, the rescue operation had to be stopped. The SDERF team has restarted the rescue operation from Wednesday morning.
Accident: A taxi met with an accident on Tuesday near Lakhanpur on Dharchula-Lipulekh road. It is being told that the taxi suddenly went out of control and fell straight into the ditch. People from Bengaluru were traveling in the Bolero car.
Pithoragarh Superintendent of Police Lokeshwar Singh said that the accident happened when the devotees were returning after visiting Adi Kailash. All the devotees traveling in the taxi died in the accident that took place around 2:30 pm on Tuesday.
He said that due to darkness and adverse geographical conditions, the work of recovery of dead bodies could not begin at night. Search work will be started from Wednesday morning.
Even after Uttarakhand Police and SDERF team searched the bodies of the devotees till late night, no clue was found. Eyewitnesses told that the accident was so terrible that there is no hope of survival of any devotee traveling in the taxi.
