New Delhi: On an important occasion highlighting the deepening ties between India and Bangladesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina jointly inaugurated three important projects through video conferencing.

During the inaugural ceremony, Prime Minister Modi expressed delight at the ongoing success of the India-Bangladesh partnership, emphasizing that their relationship has reached new heights and achieved a remarkable level of cooperation and development in just nine years. The two leaders highlighted important agreements that have strengthened their bilateral relations, particularly the Land Boundary Agreement and the Maritime Agreement, which have played an important role in promoting peace and cooperation in the region. Both agreements have provided a strong foundation for cooperation between India and Bangladesh, allowing them to effectively address mutual aspirations.

One of the notable developments unveiled during the event was the launch of services for three new buses, marking increased connectivity between the two countries. This achievement underlines the commitment to facilitate movement of people and goods, promote people-to-people ties and trade.

Additionally, the leaders jointly inaugurated three rail services, an important step towards strengthening transport connectivity between India and Bangladesh. These rail services are expected to promote economic growth and regional integration, serving as an important link for the movement of goods and passengers.

The three projects that were inaugurated are:

Akhaura-Agartala Cross Border Rail Link: This rail link holds immense importance as it connects Agartala city of India with Akhaura of Bangladesh. It facilitates smooth movement of goods and passengers between the two countries, thereby enhancing regional connectivity.

Khulna-Mongla Port Rail Line: This rail line connects Khulna city of Bangladesh with Mongla Port, an important trade gateway. The rail line will speed up transportation of goods to the port, thereby boosting economic activities and trade.

Second Unit of Maitri Super Thermal Power Plant at Rampal, Bangladesh: The second unit of Maitri Super Thermal Power Plant is a significant addition to the energy infrastructure of Bangladesh. This will contribute to meeting the country’s growing energy demands, ensuring stable and reliable power supply.
