Hiroshima. PM Narendra Modi met Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Hiroshima, Japan on Saturday. PM Modi is participating in the G7 summit being held under Japanese chairmanship at the invitation of Fumio Kishida.

The two leaders discussed ways to enhance India-Japan friendship in various fields including trade, economy and culture. PM Modi said, ‘I congratulate you for the wonderful event of G7.

Your visit to India was a memorable one. The Bodhi tree I had given to you, you planted it in Hiroshima and as it grows, Indo-Japanese relations will get strengthened. This is the tree that bestows the immortality of Buddha’s thoughts.’

Let us tell you that on Friday, PM Modi reached Hiroshima in the first leg of his three-nation tour and he is expected to participate in more than 40 programs. The Prime Minister’s Office tweeted ‘PM @narendramodi met PM @kishida230 in Hiroshima.

After the meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Hiroshima. During this, he said, ‘Even today the world trembles on hearing the word ‘Hiroshima’. I had the opportunity to unveil the statue of Mahatma Gandhi during my visit to Japan for the G7 Summit.

He further said, ‘The statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Hiroshima will further the idea of non-violence. It is a great moment for me to know that the Bodhi tree that I gifted to the Japanese PM has been planted here in Hiroshima so that people can understand the importance of peace when they come here.
