New Delhi. Eight former Indian marines lodged in a jail in Qatar have been released, out of which seven have returned to India. This decision of Qatar is being considered a major diplomatic success of the Indian government.
It is said that the meeting held in Dubai between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad on December 1 last year had prepared the ground for the release of these former marines.
Of these 8 former marines, 7 returned home on Monday and all of them said that this would not have been possible without Modi’s intervention on the issue with Qatar. According to the information received, PM Modi left the COP28 summit in Dubai on December 1. Had a meeting with the Emir of Qatar,
After which back-channel talks started for the release of these Indian citizens. Regarding this meeting, PM Modi had said, ‘We had a good discussion on the possibility of bilateral partnership and the well-being of the Indian community in Qatar.’
It is being said that the issue of eight Indian Navy veterans lodged in Qatar’s jail was also included in PM Modi’s conversation with the Emir of Qatar, although neither of the two countries has yet officially confirmed this.
