Following this, on Friday, he will unveil development projects valued at over Rs 30,500 crore in the state. The foundation stone for this bridge was laid by PM Modi in December 2016.
Notably, it is both the longest bridge in India and the lengthiest sea bridge in the country, spanning approximately 21.8 km with a six-lane structure. Out of this, 16.5 km extends over the sea, while 5.5 km is on land.
It will provide direct connectivity to Mumbai International Airport and Navi Mumbai International Airport and will also reduce travel time from Mumbai to Pune, Goa and South India. The official statement said that this will also improve the connectivity between Mumbai Port and Jawaharlal Nehru Port.
Prime Minister Modi will also lay the foundation stone of the road tunnel connecting ‘Eastern Freeways Orange Gate’ to Marine Drive. The 9.2 km long tunnel will be built at a cost of over Rs 8,700 crore and will be a significant infrastructure development in Mumbai.
