Srinagar. Thursday’s terrorist attack in Poonch took place ahead of the G20 meeting in Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistani Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto’s visit to India in May.
Five army soldiers were martyred in this attack. Just a few days ago, a top-level review was held on the security situation in the Valley ahead of this high-profile conference.
According to a viral social media post, the People’s Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF), a proxy organization of Jaish-e-Mohammed, has claimed responsibility for the terror attack, but official confirmation of its involvement is awaited.
The Army said, “Today, at about 3 am, unidentified terrorists opened fire on an Army vehicle moving between Bhimber Gali and Poonch in Rajouri sector, taking advantage of heavy rain and low visibility.
The vehicle caught fire due to the use of grenade. Five personnel of the Rashtriya Rifles unit deployed for anti-terrorist operations in the area were unfortunately martyred in the incident.”
In these, another seriously injured soldier was immediately taken to the Army Hospital in Rajouri and is undergoing treatment. Raids are being conducted in search of those who carried out the attack.
A message is going viral on social media claiming responsibility for the attack by PAFF. In the post, the group has threatened to target the G20 meeting in Srinagar.
