Due to the statement made regarding the Modi surname, he was convicted of criminal defamation. Due to this, he was sentenced to 2 years. The next hearing in this regard has been fixed on April 20 and it is believed that a decision may come on that day.

Challenging the verdict in the Sessions Court on April 3, Rahul Gandhi filed a petition to stay his conviction. According to legal experts, if the court gives a verdict in favor of Rahul Gandhi, then his membership of the Lok Sabha can be restored.

An appeal has been made on behalf of Rahul Gandhi to cancel the conviction. If the court approves the appeal, then Rahul Gandhi can get relief from this. Here, on Thursday, RS Cheema presented arguments on behalf of Rahul Gandhi in the court.

He said that the court should examine that speech and see whether the complainant is a victim or not. According to the law, only the aggrieved person can file a complaint. Cheema while reading a statement of the witness said that Modi is not a caste, the people of Gosai caste are called Modi.
