Dhaka. Severe cyclonic storm Mocha hit the coasts of Bangladesh and Myanmar on Sunday, causing heavy rains and winds up to 195 km per hour. Mohammad Azizur Rahman, director of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, has said that the cyclone has also weakened by Sunday evening.
Trees have been uprooted in Myanmar due to strong winds and a telecom tower has also been uprooted. Several video footages circulated on social media showed roofs and electric cables falling from buildings.
The cyclone has almost completely engulfed western Myanmar, but is now weakening rapidly. Although it is still bringing strong winds and heavy rains in the country. Mocha is expected to spread over northern Myanmar from Monday night to Tuesday morning local time.
Gas supplies from two floating LNG terminals were suspended due to the cyclone. The authorities have suspended Monday’s Secondary School Certificate or SSC examinations under all educational boards due to Mocha.
