New Delhi. The Supreme Court today rejected a petition seeking the manufacture and use of green crackers using barium. The Supreme Court refused to interfere in the Delhi government’s decision to ban the use of firecrackers in Delhi-NCR before Diwali.
The Supreme Court said that the 2018 ban will be duly implemented by all authorities. The Supreme Court has clearly refused to give permission to make green firecrackers in the country.
The central government and firecracker manufacturers had informed the Supreme Court about the process of manufacturing and sale of these firecrackers, claiming that these firecrackers cause less pollution. Both had requested for approval for their construction.
The Supreme Court rejected this appeal. While giving the verdict, the Supreme Court said, ‘Happy Diwali.’ According to the Supreme Court, use of green firecrackers will be allowed in other places across the country except Delhi-NCR.
There will be a ban on the use of barium in all types of firecrackers. The ban on firecrackers like sticks, rockets etc. will remain intact. The Supreme Court said that agencies across the country should follow these orders.
Last week, the bench of Justices AS Bopanna and MM Sundaresh had reserved the verdict after hearing the case in detail.
One of these petitions was filed by BJP MP Manoj Tiwari challenging the complete ban on firecrackers during Diwali in Delhi in 2022.
During the hearing, the Supreme Court questioned whether they can do a better job than the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and also said that one has to trust the primary institutions.
