New Delhi: SC has lifted the ban on the film ‘The Kerala Story’ in West Bengal. Now this film will be released in West Bengal. On Thursday, the Supreme Court heard the ban on The Kerala Story in Bengal.
Chief Justice DY Chandrachud told the Bengal government that power should be used with restraint. The film can be banned in a particular district but not in the entire state! It is the prerogative of the government to control public sentiments, the film cannot be banned.
The Supreme Court said that a disclaimer will have to be put up by 5 pm on May 20 that the figure of 32,000 has no firm basis. The next hearing in the Supreme Court will be on July 18.
Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said that the use of state power should be proportionate. Any kind of intolerance cannot be tolerated, but the fundamental right to freedom of expression cannot be determined on the basis of public demonstration of one’s feelings.
