Chamoli. Due to heavy rains in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, parts of the Karnprayag-Gwaldam National Highway were washed away in the Pindar river, which is in spate these days.
While giving this information on Saturday, the officials said that due to this many passengers are stranded on the National Highway. Due to the rapid flow of the Pindar river, the soil of the lower parts of the road is continuously eroding.
Official sources said that due to overnight rains on Thursday, flood situation like that of August 13 has again been created in Pranmati, a tributary of Pindar river. Due to this fresh flood in the river, the fields around both the banks of the Pindar have also been covered with debris.
Earlier, after the flood of August 13, the houses around the river bank were evacuated in view of the danger. He said that the velocity of water and debris in the Pranmati river flowing through the Sol valley had increased so much last night that it caused some damage. For some time the flow of Pindar river was also stopped.
He told that a lake-like situation had arisen for some time at the confluence of Pranmati and Pindar. On the other hand, according to the Chamoli district administration, efforts are on to clear the debris and reopen the road.
According to officials, earlier the movement of vehicles on the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway-58 was stopped after heavy landslides from the mountain in Totaghati area of Tehri Garhwal district.
