Uttarkashi: Rescue work is going on a war footing to rescue the workers trapped in the collapse of a part of the under-construction Silkyara Tunnel on Yamunotri National Highway in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. The wait for good news is increasing every day. It has been 13 days since 41 laborers were trapped in the Silkyara Tunnel and till now they have not been able to get out.

Today is the 14th day of the rescue operation and it is expected that all these workers will come out after breaking the mountain. However, today it is a bit difficult to say clearly by when they will come out, because the drilling work is constantly being disrupted. It is believed that drilling has been done up to about 50 meters and only 10 meters distance is left between the rescue team and the workers.

In fact, the ongoing drilling in the Silkyara tunnel of Uttarkashi in an attempt to make way for the evacuation of 41 workers trapped for the last 14 days had to be stopped once again on Friday, due to which the wait of the workers increased further. Officials said that drilling, which was halted on Thursday due to a technical glitch in the American auger machine, was resumed after 24 hours on Friday.

He told that after removing the technical hurdle during the day, drilling was started with a heavy auger machine weighing 25 tonnes but its operation had to be stopped for some time. This is the second setback for the campaign in the last two days. Let us tell you that a part of the tunnel being built on the Chardham Yatra route had collapsed on November 12, due to which the workers working in it were trapped on the other side of the debris.

Since then, rescue operations are being conducted on war footing by various agencies to rescue them.Officials said that till now 46.8 meters of steel pipes have been inserted by drilling in the estimated 57 meters of debris while 10-12 meters of drilling is left. Official sources said that this time the 25 mm rods and iron pipes in the debris have become a hindrance in drilling.

He told that work is being done to remove the obstacles with the gas cutter by removing the auger machine. He said that the drilling work is being affected due to iron objects repeatedly coming in front of the machine.Former advisor to the Prime Minister’s Office, Bhaskar Khulbe, citing data obtained from ‘Ground Penetrating Radar’, had told reporters in the morning that there is no metal obstruction up to five meters ahead of the blocked part of the drilled tunnel.

He said there was no technical problem with the auger machine but rescue workers had to strengthen the platform on which it was installed. Khulbe had also expressed hope that the rescue operation would be completed by Friday evening.
