Uttarkashi.The upcoming days hold crucial significance for the 40 workers stranded in Uttarkashi’s Silkyara-Dandalgaon tunnel, which collapsed two days ago. Accumulated debris within the tunnel poses a significant challenge to evacuation efforts. To address this, rescue teams have initiated a new strategy.
On Tuesday, they began inserting wide MS (mild steel) pipes into the debris. Officials explained that horizontal drilling will be carried out in the affected section of the Silkyara tunnel, allowing the insertion of pipes for the trapped workers to safely exit.
Let us tell you that on Sunday morning, about 30 meters of the tunnel under construction on the Yamunotri National Highway, 270 meters inside the mouth from the Silkyara side, had collapsed due to a landslide and since then 40 workers are trapped inside it. To rescue them, rescue and relief operations are being carried out on a war footing.
Officials said that the agar machine was rushed to the spot early in the morning to bury the 900 mm wide pipe and the tunnel by doing horizontal drilling inside it. He told that currently a platform is being built for the agar drilling machine. Experts and engineers have also reached the spot with necessary equipment.
