However, the primary challenge faced by rescue officials is the drilling process. Initially, horizontal drilling was attempted, but with limited success. As a result, the focus has shifted to vertical drilling, with a designated location identified for this purpose.

The rescue team has successfully laid 32 meters of pipe through the drilling machine. The central government has acknowledged the complexities involved and said the rescue operation for the 41 stranded workers could extend up to 15 days. Rescue agencies stress the critical nature of the next 40 hours in their efforts.

Amidst the challenges, a significant breakthrough has been achieved – laying a 57-metre-long, 6-inch-wide pipe to deliver adequate quantities of solid food and water. Hot food is now being provided through this pipeline.Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are actively engaged, constantly taking updates on the growing rescue operation.

PM Modi also held a review meeting last Monday night. Also calling CM Dhami and getting updates continuously. Officials said they have resumed the stalled operation to cut through the debris and rescue workers through an evacuation route. Vegetarian pulao, peas-paneer and chapatti with butter were sent through pipes for dinner to the workers trapped in the tunnel.
